Employment attorney joins firm as senior counsel and practice leader
HOUSTON (March 22, 2010) — Andrews Myers, P.C., one of Texas’ top-ranked construction law firms, recently established a labor and employment practice led by veteran employment attorney Anthony (Tony) G. Stergio, who joins the firm as senior counsel.
For almost 20 years, Tony’s practice has focused on employment law and commercial litigation and arbitration. Board certified in labor and employment law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, he has extensive experience in the defense of state and federal employment discrimination claims, wage and hour compliance, noncompetition agreements and employment policy design and review. Tony also counsels clients regarding developments in various areas of state and federal employment law.
“With the number and complexity of labor disputes increasing, we know that our clients need employment law counsel from time to time,” said Patrick Hayes, president of Andrews Myers, P.C.. “Because we understand our clients’ businesses, their industries and the kind of employment issues that may arise, it’s another way we can leverage our knowledge and experience to serve our clients efficiently and effectively.”
Among other professional accomplishments, Tony has successfully defended a national origin and race discrimination case in federal court; obtained summary judgment in numerous age, sex and race discrimination cases in both federal and state courts; and defended an action regarding a Fair Labor Standards Act in federal court regarding employee/independent contractor issues and Fair Labor Standards Act exemptions.
Although Tony’s primary area of practice is employment law, he has substantial experience handling commercial litigation in state and federal courts. Tony also frequently speaks at employment-related seminars.
“I am very pleased to join Andrews Myers, P.C. and to play an integral role in building the firm’s labor and employment practice,” said Stergio. “The new practice offers an opportunity to provide more comprehensive legal services to the firm’s construction, real estate and business clients.”
Tony graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Connecticut, where he graduated magna cum laude.
