Jeff Lefkowitz is a member of the American Arbitration Association’s National Panel of Commercial Arbitrators. He is also a mediator specializing in real estate and other business disputes.  He has extensive experience with a wide range of business disputes, with emphasis in real estate, lease, construction and contract litigation. For a number of years, Jeff’s practice included substantial transactional work, which gives him familiarity and experience with underlying documents not common to many arbitrators.

Representative Experience

  • Arbitration of business, real estate, lease, contract, and consumer cases.
  • Successfully handled numerous lease disputes with issues ranging from surrender by operation of law, enforceability of renewal provisions, esoteric subtenancy issues, covenants to operate, use provisions, and a wide variety of other complex landlord-tenant issues to more mundane collection issues.
  • Handled chemical plant construction litigation resulting in a multi-million-dollar settlement for the client-owner in one case and in a favorable settlement to a contractor-client in another large case.
  • Successfully handled, through appeal, affirmance of substantial judgment against surety on performance bond claim.
  • Successfully handled trial and appeals of several cases involving arbitrability related to structural settlements.
  • Successfully handled, on appeal, the reversal of a judgment that had awarded damages and held unconstitutional certain of the client-city’s ordinances. Defeated, at the trial court, an attack on the constitutionality of the client-city’s enforcement practices.
  • Successfully handled litigation against a major real estate developer-client involving claims of ownership of a multi-million-dollar real estate portfolio.
  • Successfully obtained injunctive relief in restrictive covenant, real estate, bailment and unfair competition cases.
  • Successfully represented officers and stockholders in a protracted shareholder dispute.
